Ushers, Greeters and Coffee People

Ushers and Greeters are a vital part of the “Anchor team” which brings together our fine Sunday Services. To be one of the faces of UUCE for visitors and friends, scroll down to read more, or contact the Membership committee.

There is no better way to GET ACQUAINTED with everyone who comes to church than to say hello to everyone as they walk through the door! Welcome Greeters is an adjunct program under Membership, coordinated by Norma Landy. Anyone wanting to be a Greeter would contact her.

Welcome Greeter volunteers: WHAT WOULD I DO?

Greeter Before the Service - Arrive 15 minutes early to the Sunday morning service.  Wear an "Ask Me" Welcome Button/ribbon.  Stand at the outside door (Ushers actually stand at the Sanctuary entrance) to welcome members, friends, and visitors.  Direct newcomers to the inside visitor's table for a name tag and visitor information.  If there are two Welcome Greeters, one could stand at the visitor's table to assist newcomers.

Greeter After the Service - Our primary function occurs after the Sunday morning service. Our job is to ensure that our guests are not left standing alone at the social hour after Sunday service.  We make them feel welcome; learn about them; and introduce them to others with similar interests.

A very important task at services is for someone to help each person feel settled in -- to be friendly, warm and helpful. You are making the first impression of our church. Ushers is an adjunct program under Membership, coordinated by Robin Shantz-Mulfurd. Anyone wanting to be a Greeter would contact him.

Usher volunteers: WHAT WOULD I DO?

Usher Before the Service -- You arrive at least 30 minutes early to set up the greeter’s table, logbook, alter-able materials, and set out the hymnals on the chairs

Stand at the sanctuary doors to greet people warmly as they enter, hand out the Order of Service pamphlets, and help orient visitors, newcomers, and people who need extra assistance to find seats.

During the service, you will take a head count, and pass out and collect Offering baskets. Stay available in the entry for late comers, and keep an eye out for folks who need help during the service. You are often the one who saves the day!

Usher After the Service

Pick up programs, hearing devices, hymnals, tidy the sanctuary, replace materials in the kiosk. Stay at the greeter’s table for about 15 minutes to answer questions and get to know newcomers. Take the Offering money downstairs. Fill out the log book for the service.

Coffee Duty Before and After Service

Many newcomers take on coffee duty as a way to get to know a lot of people rather quickly.  We hope YOU will take a turn! It’s an easy process, and you are given training and full instructions!  It also requires arriving about 30 minutes early with the Ushers and other Anchor members, and staying 30 minutes after to clean up.

Look for the sign-up sheet on a clipboard on the kitchen counter and sign up for either service.

Anyone wanting to be a Coffee Maker would contact Robin.
