Responsibilities and Benefits of Membership
As a member, your responsibilities manifest in at least three ways:
~ To yourself, you owe the pursuit of a personal spiritual journey.
~ To others, you owe participation as a member of a shared community.
~ To the institution, you owe a commitment of financial support in the form of an annual pledge in the amount you feel appropriate in your economic circumstances.
Responsibilities
Members should expect to:
- attend church on a regular basis
- participate in the life of the church
- volunteer an appropriate amount of time and energy in support of the church
- provide a meaningful level of financial support for the church, in recognition of our role as members, property owners and employers (Fair Share giving goal: 2.5%-8%)
- explore and celebrate our personal spirituality in community with others
- perform service in the larger community
- receive and model responsible behavior
- create a caring community of seekers after the truth
- provide a haven for everyone's exploration of personal religious beliefs
- share the joys and sorrows of life's passages, to celebrate and grieve together
- educate children and adults in our Unitarian Universalist heritage and values
- challenge, stimulate and encourage each other's moral, ethical and religious growth
- act upon our values in reaching out to the wider world
- support liberal religion in the Pacific Northwest
- advise the membership chair and/or the church office if you move or wish to withdraw your membership
Benefits
Voting members:
- Right to vote on annual church budget, calling a settled minister, and purchase of church property
- Right to vote in the election of church officers
- Eligible for election to the Board of Trustees, Nominating Committee, or Building Project Oversight Committee (BPOC)
- Eligible for appointment to select church committees, such as the Committee on Congregational Ministry (COCM)
- Eligible to chair church committees
- Eligible to use Pastoral care and counseling services
- Eligible to use church facilities for rites-of-passage ceremonies
- Subscription to UU World magazine (From the UUA)
- Recognition as a UUCE stakeholder
Voting and Non-voting Members:
- Subscription to UUCE monthly newsletter and weekly emailed calendar
- Participate in church committees and organizations
- Church Directory of Members and Friends
- Subscription to Biz-UUCE email list (meeting minutes, organizational news)
- Notice of and first rights to educational offerings
- Connections to the Unitarian Universalist movement worldwide
