They will be sung down to their classrooms by the congregation, approximately 10 minutes into the service, to attend the RE program downstairs until 12:15. What is Religious Education at UUCE?
Each year our curricula rotates to focus on one of three broad topic areas: “Religions of the World” “UU Identity” “Peace and Social Justice”. Our kids love their RE classes, teachers and friends.
THIS IS WORLD RELIGIONS YEAR!All ages will be exposed to the many World Religions and practices around the globe. Lessons will teach basic principles of the religion, give a taste of important celebrations, and invite visitors to share their own practice of Buddhism, Christianity, Sufism, Islam, Judaism, Paganism, Native American spirituality and MORE!
We do not try to create "theology experts", but instead, develop a rich respect and understanding, which we believe will lead our children to desire and live in peace and cooperation with their brothers and sisters.
The curriculum is designed to:
We create opportunities for active, artistic, dramatic, musical and verbal exploration to:
From the UUA: "Unitarian Universalist religious education aims to engage children, youth, and adults in opportunities that empower them to develop their own religious philosophy, thereby freeing them to be their own best selves and to become kind, fair, creative, and responsible persons. Our goal is to provide participants with dynamic, vivid experiences of the power of Unitarian Universalism and to help them develop life-enhancing relationships. The goals in our religious education programs are to provide opportunities to experience a depth of relationship with ourselves, with others, with the world, with the earth, and with the universe. "
In the UU Identity year, we explore how we live our UU values and principles, and how we can reach out to make the world a better place. Curriculum includes sections on character building, positive communication and preventing bullying. The Peace and Social Justice year is focused on how kids can make a difference. Through guests, field trips and special projects, we empower the children and youth to work for causes that are important to them. ...this past Social Justice year the children and youth were visited by community groups to educate the children on how they help people, animals, or the earth. The children and youth then created service projects for Pro-Bone-O, 1st PLace Family Center, WREN, and Food for Lane County.
