We saw a nice assortment of birds last week and the Oregon Birders Online list serve reports new arrivals almost daily, so it should be good on Tuesday - UNLESS we are having torrential rain. If it is pouring rain, we won't go. If you are wondering whether it is a go, you can call my home phone anytime after 6:30 AM on tuesday - 338-2959. If it is after 7:30 AM, you will need to call my cell phone 335-1637, or my home phone if you get no cell phone response. My cell does not work at my house. No decision about breakfast, but when we go to Fern Ridge it usually is The Daily Bread in Veneta. We haven't checked out this area for several months, and it should be interesting this time of year with some wildflowers along the way. Breakfast will be at the 5th Street Market food court - probably by 9:15 AM since it isn't a very long walk around the loop trail. I will have my cell phone turned on after 7:30 AM if you want to find out where we are. 335-1637 If it is raining hard, we might just meet and then go to breakfast. We will walk west on the gravel road to the raised viewing platform. There should be a good number of waterfowl and perhaps a scattering of shorebirds by then. Last week I turned on my cell phone but forgot and left it in my car - this week I will turn it on (after 7:30 AM) and hopefully have it with me so you can check on our progress in case you arrive late. It is a little confusing now that they park all those new and used cars back there, but if you drive towards the river you should be able to find us. Meet at 8 AM. We will walk north on the bike/pedestrian paths. I hear the herons are starting to stake out their favorite nests in the trees and there should be a good assortment of ducks. I will have my cell phone turned on after 7:30 AM if you need to check to see where we are - 335-1637.
