Tues. Dec. 4, though, I plan to keep open, and currently can ONLY go if I get a ride, as I can't drive for the next three months. I live in SW Eugene, between Polk and Chambers off 28th Ave. Is there anyone who usually goes who could offer a ride to birding? Thanks much! I miss you! Last Tuesday I sent a note to Martha Osgood to include in the Weekly Update and thought it had gone to everyone. I realized last night after 10 PM that I had not sent it when I got three e-mails asking where we were going. We were back at Parking Lot 9 behind Autzen Stadium again today and the birding was outstanding - 33 species! Highlights were varied thrush, stellar jay, brown creeper, bewick's wren, downy woodpecker, gobs of ruby-crowned and golden-crowned kinglets, golden-crowned sparrows and a Kestral that dive bombed a flock of juncos right in front of us. NEXT WEEK - November 27 - we will return to Parking Lot 9 behind Autzen Stadium and will meet at 8 AM. For those of you only interested in breakfast, we will be at the Fifth Street Market food court between 9:45 and 10:00 AM. HAPPY THANKSGIVING Judie (Martha - I assume this is going to everyone on my "old" list - is that right?) If there are no cars in the parking lot, then you can assume we have gone to Fifth Street market! Out of the corner of my ear just now I hear there may be rain in the AM - with a high of 48 degrees. For those of you only interested in breakfast, we will be at the Fifth Street Market food court between 9:45 and 10:00 AM. Last Tuesday we found 31 species, with highlights being four western meadowlarks, a great egret, and a Bewick's wren. If you will arrive late or want to know when we will arrive at Fifth Street Market, I will have my cell phone turned on after 7:30 AM on Tuesday. If any of you would like to participate in the Eugene Christmas Bird count, please let me know. Nancy McKechnie and I will be walking in the Santa Clara neighborhoods and my son will lead a team around Thistledown Farm. The count is December 26 - and you can sign up to go all day or any portion thereof. Don't worry if you don't feel qualified to identify everything you see - on these counts spotters are equally important. The more people involved to help see movement and birds, the better. There will be teams all over Eugene, so you don't have to help us out in the Santa Clara area.
