Sue,
Concerning accessibility at the auction:
There should be "an access aisle at least 36 in clear between parallel
edges of tables or between a wall and the table edges"
(according to ADA regulations for tables in restaurants).
Are there hearing-assistive devices for the sound system and a cordless
mic (more than few of our members have hearing loss)?
Will there be someone at the door to help the visually impaired find
their way?
Will special activities/events that are wheelchair-accessible and up for
auction be identified as such? (I missed out on some activities in the
past because I assumed they were at places that were not accessible and
later found that they were.)
Will there be a place to put walkers so they don't block aisles?
Are bathrooms ADA wheelchair accessible? and are all doorways at least
32" wide?
Are thresholds no more than 3/4" high?
Will hallways be kept clear, ie, no extra chairs or other equipment
stored there making for too narrow (less than 36") a passage?
Sue, this list is by no means exhaustive--there are undoubtedly things
I've overlooked. If you would like me to visit the church to check
things out, I'd be happy to do so. Just let me know.
And thanks for your willingness to make the auction as accessible as
possible.
Cindy
