This was sent by the Rev to the task force doing planning for his
installation. I'd like to give this a total thumbs up on behalf of our
committee. But I want to make sure that this would be ok with you all.
This seems like the best outcome we could hope for IMHO.
Mary
Hi all,
At a meeting at First Christian yesterday, I spoke with Rev. Dan Bryant
further about options for the reception. I am thinking we could split the
reception between the sanctuary and the social hall downstairs. He said
coffee, tea, crackers and cookies could be served upstairs, but not
sandwiches or more elaborate foods... though he thought it would be fine if
a few were brought upstairs for those unable to go downstairs.
The Interfaith services have their receptions in the sanctuaries, he said.
I walked around the space and thought this option would work well. I would
be glad to do my meeting and greeting, at least to start, upstairs. That
might counter-balance the attraction of the greater availability of food
downstairs! Having two reception areas, not far apart, might work well
anyway for a group this large. Gives the introverts an excuse to walk out
of one large crowded room and have a breather in the hallway before going
into another.
I am not in favor of a separate location for the reception. I've been to
too many Sunday afternoon installations to know that few if any local
interfaith guests or out-of-town UUs would drive to the reception, rather
than drive home. The few who would drive to UUCE might then have to park
far away, at night, assuming they could find the place. I think it's an
important aspect of hospitality in this case to provide food and an
opportunity for 20 minutes of schmoozing on-site. Some may stay longer.
How about we sit with this possibility over the holidays and talk about it
when we meet.
Thank you everybody! Happy Thanksgiving!

Julia, stay on speaking terms with the Rev. I think you've got a
good start on whatever needs to be done (and whoever needs to be
recruited) for the actual service. Remember to remind Steve that
much as he would like to wear jeans and Birkenstocks for the service
we much prefer the purple velour suit with the ruffled shirt. I'm
sure he'll understand.
What, I miss a meeting, and this sort of thing is decided for
me???

Bonnie, thanks for the offer of the conference room at your
office. Since we definitely want to have Steve in attendance (at
least once in a while :-) )it looks like church is the place. Room
5 is available and has been reserved for us. Meanwhile, maybe we
can do some planning and/or organizing via e-mail.
Mary, we're interested in any other things you can make us aware
of in addition to those you shared with us via Steve.
Bonnie, publicity is the major activity going on at the moment. Let
us know how we can help.
Diane and Rachel, keep your imaginations and creative juices
flowing. Sometimes it just feels like the Junior Prom all over
again what with themes, decorations, making sure no one spikes the
punch, etc.
Stay in touch, and we'll see each other on December 4, at 5:40.

Thanks, Suzanne. I've got this on my calendar. I
am also happy to offer the conference room at my office as a
meeting place, if that helps. My office is located near Valley
River (behind Red Robin & Marie Callender restaurants). Just a
thought. . . thanks!

Hello everyone,
It sounded as though December 4th (Tuesday) will work best for
most of us, so let's plan to gather at church at 5:40. I'll
see what room will be available and let you all know.
