Sep 9, 2009
Adult RE meeting was conducted entirely via email.
There was a glitch re: publicizing the Fall Class schedule in the Sep UU News. Ann Fuller wrongly sent Kim the newsletter blurb to the old "efn" email address. It was not bounced back to me, so the outdated email address was not noted. The teachers affected took the mix-up very graciously. Class dates got changed/postponed as follows:
Sep 19: "Teaching/Facilitating" (tchr: Rev L): (postponed)
Sept 22, Oct 6, 27, Nov 3, 10, Dec 1: "Emerson" (tchr: Rev L): 6:30-8:00 pm
Sept 23, Oct 7, 21, Nov 4, 18, Dec 2: "Emerson" (tchr: Rev L): 10:30 am-12:00 pm,
October 6 and 8: (reg: Sept 13, 27, Oct 4)."Building Your Own Theology" 6-7:30 (tchrs: Brian & Martin Lewis)
Nov 7: "Creating an Illustrated Journal" (tchr: Judie Hansen): 10 am - noon
Nov 7: "Memoir Writing Workshop" (tchr: Judie Hansen): 1-3 PM
The two sessions of "Emerson" are full.
As per the decision at the last Coordinating Council meeting, it is recommended that fees for all classes be voluntary. The exact quote from the C.C. minutes is: "The Council recommends that normally there be voluntary registration fees for adult RE classes. This motion passed unanimously."
At least two additional members are needed on the Adult RE Committee.
Meeting closed via email.

UUCE Adult RE Committee
Minutes
Present: Dick Loescher, Barb Prentice, Ann Fuller
Absent: Brian Lewis
1. Opening words: Ann Fuller
2. Check-in
3. Financial Report: $22.14 in #2442 (this account will close soon): $147.05 in #5660. Adult RE has $250 for FY 2009-10
4. Proposed class schedule for 2009-10:
Ann Fuller will email the Lewis brothers, Judie Hansen, Rev Landale, the Judkinses, and Audrey Maslin to thank them for offering to teach and to ask that they read the "Tasks and Guidelines for Teachers" (which will be attached to the email). The email will also ask that, for classes offered in the Fall, dates/times be decided before our August 12 meeting so blurbs can go in the Sep UU News.
Classes include:
Fall
"Teaching/Facilitating" (teacher: Rev L): Ten to Noon, Saturday Sep 19.
"Emerson" (teacher: Rev L)
"Welcoming Congregation" (teachers: Marilyn and Nisco Junkins)
"Building Your Own Theology" (teachers: Brian Lewis and Martin Lewis)
"Creating an Illustrated Journal" (teacher: Judie Hansen)
Winter/Spring:
"End of Life" (teacher: Audrey Maslin)
"Articulating Your UU Faith" (teacher: ?)
"Memoir Writing Workshop" (teacher: Judie Hansen)
Barb Prentice will call Gil Osgood to inquire about his offering a class. Barb will also call Judie Hansen for details on the two classes she plans.
It is expected that Small Group Ministry will be offered Winter/Spring and NV Communication most likely will be offered as well (timing not set).
4. Barb Prentice noted that the UUCE childcare policy has changed and the change needs to be reflected in the Adult RE "Tasks and Guidelines for Teachers." Rather than compose revised childcare policy wording within our Committee, it was decided to wait for changed policy wording from the Coordinating Council. Adult RE will advise teachers to confer with the church office re: childcare for classes.
5. The May 14 request to the office to order "Building Your Own Theology I" and "Articulating Your UU Faith" was never received. Candee Cole got involved in sorting out the mix-up. Adult RE learned that Candee bought the newest version of "Articulating Your UU Faith" a few months ago. Therefore, Adult RE requests that the office order only "Building Your Own Theology I." (Ann Fuller will email the office with the request)
6. Ann Fuller reported that Kay Crider, from the Long Range Planning Committee, inquired about Adult RE's plans for 2011-13. The members of Adult RE haven't seen the Five Year Plan for Adult RE. Ann Fuller will ask Kay Crider for a copy of the Plan.
7. Barb Prentice suggested revisions/improvements to the class evaluation form. It was agreed that Barb make the revisions before the forms are used again. The goal is to gather more specific information (e.g., best days/times for class). A five-point scale will replace the four-point scale. Barb also suggested that, for each class, a synopsis of the evaluation, the class outline, and the feedback note to the teacher be kept. The Committee agreed.
8. Barb Prentice wrote and shared a "thank you and feedback" to Mary Otten for her teaching "Islam." The ARE Committee approved Barb's note which will now go to Mary.
9. A discussion on payment for Adult RE classes took place. It was decided that the topic be discussed at and a policy set by the Coordinating Council. Generally, the Adult RE Committee feels that cash for classes is welcome, however, soliciting the cash needs to be done carefully so that all are included and welcome.
10. Barb Prentice will offer opening/closing words at our next meeting.
11 Next Meeting: Aug 12, 6:30-7:30, room 5 (no July meeting).
12. Closing Words (Ann Fuller). Adjourned 7:35
