NEW BUILDING PROJECT
Decisions Background

About 100 people attended this workshop.  In the afternoon, those present organized themselves into groups of about six people each.

First, there was a  "values exercise," in which each group selected six words that its members felt best represented the UU values of our church.  The information on these cards is summarized below under the categories "Values Cards."

Second, there was a "dreaming exercise," where the members of each group (of about six people) were encouraged to dream of what our church will be like in five years.  Before members began this exercise, the facilitator provided a very smooth imaginary dream wherein we tried to visualize a Sunday morning in 2008 and imagined what our church might be like at that time.  Each group put its "dream" on a large poster sheet which was posted on a window or wall.  Then each participant was handed a sheet of six orange dots and invited to put them next to the posted dreams that they regarded as most important.

The raw data from these sheets are listed in the categories below as, "Ordered by Groups," "Ordered by Dots," and "Youth Input".  The "Youth Input" was obtained prior to the workshop, because the entire youth group had a conflicting commitment.  The numbers adjacent to the dream items are the number of orange dots that dream item received.  Of course, every dream had some support or it would not have appeared at all, yet many received no orange dots only because each participant was limited to six dots.  Also, several dreams are identical or nearly identical, so this raw data needs to be analyzed.  The Board has created a small group to analyze and summarize this data.  Members of the congregation will get a report, which should help as we decide how to deal with our growth issues.
