STRATEGIC PLANNING - NEXT STEPS
The Strategic Planning Committee was established as a committee of the congregation in December of 2004 to investigate the current status of the programs and facilities of the church, to explore the potential of various options as we move toward the future, and to generate a five-year plan for achieving our goals. In all of our work, our central principle is that the mission of the church and its programmatic activities should guide our future planning efforts.
In May 2007 the members of UUCE voted overwhelmingly to search and plan
for a new church site and building.
The newly created Building Project Oversight Committee
and its working groups have assumed
the responsibility for carrying out that decision.
CONGREGATIONAL MEETING for OCTOBER 7, 2007
The Board of Trustees, at the request of the Strategic Planning Committee has called a special Congregational Meeting following the second service on October 7th.
On Sunday, May 20th, following one last heartfeltThere are two items on the agenda. First is the election of three new members of the Strategic Planning Committee to replace Linda Anson, Betty Hosokawa, and Pat Christgau, whose terms end this November. Short bios of each of the nominees are given directly below.
The second is consideration of a five-year plan for UUCE. A copy of the proposed plan are available in the foyer at church and at the right --->
KAY CRIDER
A Unitarian Universalist in my heart since the 1970s and formally since 1992, I hail from California, Chicago and Texas. I moved to Eugene in 2000 with my husband, Patrick Phillips and our two boys, Alex (15) and Grant (12). A former private practice lawyer, I now work at Forest Service Employees for Environmental Ethics (FSEEE), a nonprofit conservation group working to protect public forests. At UUCE I have taught the middle school youth in both their standard and O.W.L. curriculum, co-chaired three church canvasses, and served on and chaired the DRE Advisory Committee and the Nominating Committee.
JULIA KNOWLES
I was raised a Unitarian-Universalist, but wandered away as a young adult and was unchurched for many years. I always thought of myself as a UU, even when I wasn't attending services. I started attending UUCE in the winter of 2002 and joined that spring. Since then I've been involved in several committees, a couple of Shared Ministry Groups, an adult RE class, a sister circle, and various other events and outings. My strongest connection to UUCE has been my role as a Worship Associate for the last four years. I work for the University of Oregon Museum of Natural and Cultural History and State Museum of Anthropology as an archaeologist.
DAVID PEBWORTH
I have been going to this church since the summer of 1999, when Angie and I moved here from Portland so I could attend law school at U of O. I became a member in 2002 and was a youth advisor with the high school youth group for three years. I am trained as an O.W.L. facilitator for high school, and will probably facilitate OWL this year. I have been involved in the past with the twenties and thirties group. I am a lawyer with the public defender's office. I am married, my current dependents include a dog and two cats. I enjoy the outdoors including backpacking, hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowboarding. And I love watching movies.
Planning for a Church in Transition
In May 2007 the members of UUCE voted overwhelmingly to search and plan for a new church site and building. The newly created Building Project Oversight Committee and its working groups have assumed the responsibility for carrying out that decision.
But the Strategic Planning Committee will not be idle. UUCE needs to make decisions about what we do and how we do it while we make the transition to a new facility in a new location. To aid this process the Strategic Planning Committee presented the congregation with a draft five-year-plan last February, and will ask the congregation to adopt a plan at a congregational meeting in October. We are in the process of modifying the draft plan, but we need to hear from all of you so that the plan adopted truly reflects our goals for the church. If you or your group have suggestions for revisions, please contact SPC at spc@uueugene.org or any member of the committee.
