Roll Call 2009To put the November 20th Transgender Day of Remembrance into perspective so that we understand it's importance to our entire community, here is a message from the Interweave Continental Listserve (forwarded by Marilyn Junkins). Allison Woolbert, a New Jersey UU, is a gender affirming woman, educator and advocate in the field of gender identity and equality. Transitioning in late 2008, Allison has dealt with family, work, neighbors, shopping, doctors, courts and so much more as she stepped into her authentic, gender affirming self. She is the parent to 5 children, CEO of Phoenix Consultants Group, Transgender Advocate for the UU-United Nations Office, Founder of Interweave of South Jersey and public speaker for gender identity and equality. Transgender Murders - 2009 ONLY On January 1st, Katia Otacilio Vilena of Jatai Brazil was stabbed 14 times in her own bar. Katia was 48 years old. On January 7th, Alexa Rojas Castro of Monterrey Mexico was stabbed 12 times and left dead half naked in the street. Alexa was 35 years old. On January 9th, Marcela Cairo Souza of Jatai Brazil was shot in the head in the street. Marcela was 22 years old. On January 9th, in Comayagela Honduras, Cynthia Nicole, a transgender rights activist was shot to death by a drive by shooting. She was shot three times in the chest and once in the head. Cynthia was 23 years old. On January 16th, Aline Da Silva Ribeira of Castelfranco Veneto, Italy was attacked and killed in her home. She was 23 years old. On January 17th, in San Fransisco California, Caprice Curry was stabbed to death. She was 31 years old. On January 18th, Rovilson Teixeira of Londrina, Brazil was stabbed 7 times. Rovilson was 18 years old On January 19th in Belgrade Serbia, Minja Kochis was found dead in her apartment. She had been stabbed twice in the chest. Minja was 29 years old. On January 20th in Acambaro, Mexico, Victor Manuel Albor Camacho and Juan Carlos Guilen Bautista were tortured and beaten. Both gender affirming women were found in the street. Albor was 24 years old and Guillen was 17 years old On January 22nd, in Tarapoto Peru, Dayana Nicole Castillo Garcia was found dead in her beauty salon. She was stabbed 20 times. Dayana was 31 years old. On January 22nd in Guayaquil Ecuador, an unknown gender affirming woman who was 28 years old died of severe head injuries. On January 25th, in Asuncion Ixtaltepec Mexico, Cita Solorzano (muxe) was stabbed to death on the street. She was 18 years old. On February 1st, in Johor Bahru, Johor Malaysia, Noor Azlan Khamis was found lifeless on her sofa. Noor was 29 years old. On February 1st in Recife Brazil, Will Teixeira da Silva was shot to death in the street. Will was 25 years old On February 1st in Curitiba Brazil, Ailton Correa Maia was shot to death. She was 31 years old On February 10th in Guatemala City, Guatemala, Crist was stabbed 30 times. She was 25 years old On February 18th, in Bangalore, India, Puttalakshmi's was raped and thrown out of a moving vehicle. Puttalakshmi's was Hijra. Puttalakshimi was 30 years old. ON February 19th in Uberlandia, Brazil, Camila Pereira was stabbed to death. Camila was 20 years old On February 20th, in Cabo de Santo Agostinho, Brazil, Cris Francisco das Neves died in the street of a head wound. Chris was 31 years old ON Feb 21st, Vicky Londono Chavarria of Ibague, Columbia, was found dead in a clients apartment. She had been stabbed to death On February 27th, Pequena P of Gualeguaychu Argentine was found strangled in her apartment. Pequeria was 27 years old On March 1st, Miriam Nunes Lucas of Ribeirao da Neves, Brazil was found shot to death in her apartment. Miriam was 41 years old. On March 4th, Moises Guimaraes de Lima of Joao Pessoa, Brazil was shot to death. Guimaraes was 20 years old On March 4th Wanderson Wanderley Teixeira da Rocah of Joao Pessoa Brazil was shot to death. Teixeira was 20 years old. ON March 8th, Kirsi Ubri of Santiago Dominican Republic was stabbed to death. Kirsi was 24 years old ON March 10th, Avila ("Julio) Albarracin of Mar del Plata Argentina was stabbed to death. She was 32 years old. On March 10th, Ebru Soykan of Istanbul Turkey was stabbed to death in her apartment. She had requested protection from the prosecutors office from the man that had beaten her previously. The police detained and released the man two hours later. He is suspected of the murder but not charged. Ebru was 28 years old On March 12th, in Juchitan Mexico, Adriana Sanchez Lopez was murdered. Adriana was 31 years old. ON March 22nd, Eda Yildirm of Bursa Turkey was murdered. Her head and sexual organs had been cut off and found in a rubbish container in Bursa. On March 24th, Smail L of Valencia Spain was beaten to death. Smail was 36 years old Om March 24th, Sasha Estafania of Caracas Venezuela was shot to death On April 1st, Gisela "Roni" Galante of Gualeguaychu Argentina was dismembered. Gisela was 42 years old On April 11th, an Unknown transgender was shot to death in Niteroi, Brazil. She was 40 years old This year, in the country of Guatemala, there were 9 transgenders that were outright murdered. We have no information concerning the individuals or cause of death. The person who reported this information to Liminalis risked her life to do so. On April 11th, Melek K of Ankara Turkey was found murdered in her home. Malek was 25 years old On April 14th, the murdered body of Jimmy McCollough was found in Fayetteville, NC. Jimmy was 34 years old. On April 18th, Gabriel" Carneiro de Sousa was found shot to death. In Fortaleza Brazil On April 21st, Jeva Padilla and Ramon Martinez of Santiago Dominican Republic were brutally tortured (burns, mutilated genitals and face, executed with 40 shots) and murdered. Jeva was 23 years old and Ramon Martinez was 26 years old On April 27th, Juliana Martins of Curitiba Brazil was shot in the stomach at close range. Juliana was 28 years old ON May 3rd, in Varzea Grande Brazil, "Caio Junior" do Santos was strangled. She was 19 years old On May 4th, Fernanda Botelho of Curtiba Brazil was murdered. No other details were available On May 6th, Jenifer of Curtiba Brazil was shot to death. No other details were available On May 6th in Wellington New Zealand, Diksy Jones who was 64 years old was found dead in his apartment with 'severe injuries' On May 7th in Feira de Santana Brazil, Tigresa de Souza Reis was shot in the back of her head On May 18th, Xiomaran Duras of Caracas Venezuela was shot 6 times. Xiomaran was 27 years old On May 22nd, Cagla of Ankara Turkey was found stabbed to death in her home ON May 24th, in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and unknown transgender was shot 13 times. On May 25th in Detroit Michigan, Foxy Ivy, was found shot in the back of her head. Her approximate age was less than 35 On May 26th, Dara of Curitiba Brazil was shot and killed On Jun1st, Papucha of La Victoria Peru was shot and killed. Papucha was 25 years old On Jun 9th, Kelly "Frederick" Watson was murdered in Albuquerque New Mexico. Kelly was 32 years old. On June 11th, Tanya Ardon of San Salvador, El Salvador was brutally murdered. Tanya was 17 years old On June 11th Catherine of San Salvador, El Salvador was captured and brutally murdered. Catherine was 28 years old. This year, in the country of Brazil, there were 18 transgenders that were outright murdered. We have no information concerning the individuals or cause of death. The person who reported this information to Liminalis risked her life to do so. On June 11th in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Carla Regina Bento was strangled. Carla was 30 years old. On June 14th, Rafaele of Curitiba Brazil was shot and killed. No other details are available ON June 16th, in El Carmen Mexico, Anita Fajardo Rios was beaten and stabbed. Anita was a chorus singer. On June 22nd, an unknown transgender was murdered in Belem Brazil. She was shot to death and was 16 years old On June 24th, Luana of Macelo, Brazil was shot and killed. Luana was 22 years old In June this year, Kamilla of Volgograd Russia was shot to death by her boyfriend when he discovered she had been born male. Kamilla was 30 years old On June 29th, and Unnamed Transgender Activist was murdered in Honduras after she went to work during the military-imposed two night curfew. ON June 29th in Istanbul Turkey, Hadise was murdered. No other information is available. On July 1st, Christopher Jermaine Scott of Philadelphia PA was shot multiple times in the face and torso. Christopher was 36 years old. On July 7th, in Albuquerque New Mexico, Terri Benally was found beaten to death. Terri was 42 years old ** On July 11th, in Gloucester Twp, New Jersey, Lucie Marie Hamilton died during a voodoo cleansing ritual at the age of 20. The police were called only after the scene of the ritual had been cleaned up. No suspects or charges have been considered by the police as of this date. On July 23rd in Penang Malaysia, a 27 year old transwoman was found lying in a pool of blood. She died 12 hours later ** On July 26th, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi Archie Avis Brooks was found murdered. Archies body was discovered when a first-floor neighbor reported blood dripping from the ceiling. Devin Fortune has been charged and admitted on camera to the murder. On July 26th, Beyonce (Eric) Lee of New Orleans LA was found stabbed to death in her home. She was 21 years old. On July 9th, Cesar Torres of El Paso Texas was found dead from blunt force trauma. He had cuts around his eyes, broken ribs, a broken nose, ruptured liver, wrenched neck and several stab wounds. Cesar was 39 years old On August 25th, Kanan of Setapak Malaysia was found inside a water retention pond. It is believed that Kanan was murdered elsewhere and dumped. Kanan was 42 years old. On August 26th, Tyli'a Mack also known as NaNa Boo was stabbed to death on the streets of Washington DC. Tyli'a was 18 years old. On August 28th, Paulina Ibarra of East Hollywood California was stabbed to death inside of her apartment On September 7th, and unidentified transsexual was beaten to death by a group of strangers in Algiers On September 19th, Kristina Muca of Tirana Albania was found dead with her throat slit. Kristina was 36 years old. On October 15th, Andrea Waddell of Brighton England was strangled and then her home burned to disguise the crime. Andrea was 29 years old. On October 25th, in Baltimore Maryland, and unidentified person in woman's clothing was found bleeding in the street. She died in the hospital a half hour later. On November 5th, Destiny Lauren of Kentish Town London was found in her flat murdered. Destiny was 29. In November of 2008, several transgender women were executed by Iraqi death squads. They were beheaded in most cases and we are unaware of their identities. In November of 2008 , there were 6 transgenders that were murdered in Honduras. We have no information concerning the individuals or cause of death. The person who reported this information to Liminalis risked her life to do so. In Iran in September and October 2009, mulas of the Islamic faith had given permission to local militias to kill all transgenders found. At present, we know of one transgender woman who was standing outside and was shot, and another transgender woman who was approached by two motorcyclists and stabbed. We do not know their fates, nor the hundreds of other transgenders that live in Iran, an alleged democracy.
