We are wheelchair-friendly with a lighted ramp to the main level from the parking lot, a paved and lighted path leading down to the office and classrooms, plus two large open bathrooms on the main level and one on the lower level. Text size too small? If we can be more helpful, please call the office during the week or speak to an usher on Sunday morning. It matters and we care. |

To be a resource concerning accessibility needs and policies for other groups within UUCE, such as the Facilities Council, Membership and Social Justice Committees, and Religious Education;
To provide a way for people with disabilities within our congregation to network and receive support from each other;
To be an educational resource;
To liaise with other accessibility groups locally and within the UUA.
We are supported in our efforts to be inclusive by the UUA:
"Systems of power, privilege, and oppression have traditionally created
barriers for persons and groups with particular identities, ages, abilities,
and histories. We pledge to do all we can to replace such barriers with
ever-widening circles of solidarity and mutual respect. We strive to be an
association of congregations that truly welcome all persons and commit to
structuring congregational and associational life in ways that empower and
enhance everyone's participation."
Committee meetings are open to all members and friends of UUCE.

UUCE Joins the Accessible Congregations Campaign
UUCE has joined with 2,500 congregations nationwide, including 25 UU congregations, in a program to fully and actively include people with disabilities in worship, service, study and leadership. This interfaith initiative is sponsored by the American Association of People with Disabilities. A broad spectrum of religions--Protestant, Catholic, Jewish, and Quaker--are represented. At the request of the Accessibility Committee, the Board approved UUCE's participation at its October 2008 meeting.
As a participant we make a commitment to the following principles: "in our congregation people with disabilities are valued as individuals; we endeavor to remove barriers of architecture, communications, and attitudes that exclude people with disabilities from full and active participation, and people, with and without disabilities, are encouraged to practice their faith and use their gifts and talents in worship, service, study, and leadership."
Joining in this effort provides a means of stating intentions that we are already implementing at UUCE and joining in a national effort to make religious congregations accessible. No financial cost is involved in joining in this initiative.
